Although I don't extensively use the macro keys, I am pretty sure on the conceptual reading of how they would be legal/illegal, as is the case in most games.
Simple sequence of key presses is (remember conceptually according to EULA), legal, since you can not ban someone who presses 5 keys faster. The macros can execute a series of actions that can be accomplish by the same method as hitting the keys individually.
Hitting 2 to cast meteor followed by hitting 3 to flare (for an example based on skill bar) being turning into a macro is legal. Making a macro that hits 2 to cast meteor, delay until clock is up to cast meteor again, would be ILlegal, because there is no equivalent simple single key combination in order to do so without human interfacing.
That is the difference, and I am quite sure ANet follows that possibility. One is indifferent from any other human interface player, while the other can clearly be seen as a "botted" script.

So having inhuman timing for weapon swaping and item-shadow stepping isn't illegal? o ok.
Cuz instant is still inhuman o;

I tried setting up macros, but I'm so used to doing everything the hard way I just don't use them.

The one thing I would use these macros with if I had a G15 is hero key bindings. Eg I assign skill 1 of each hero to numpad 1, 4, and 7, set up a macro key to activate all of these when I press 1 and I get 4x invoke lightning in perfect unison. Now that seems bannable to me.

It is for sure not bannable, people just search hard for any possible way to gain an edge in a "fair" fight. :>

I'm going to buy one next month and I'll mainly use it to combine actions that require several keystrokes to 1, e.g. call nearest target AND attack. I think there is no problem with that because Anet did not make key-combo's for balancing issues but because there are not enough keys on a regular keyboard to cover all actions.

Yeah, hero-spike is an obvious application. Could be interesting to try a spike-team in hero arena, actually.

So it would be totally okay of you'd make a macro which enables you to nearly-automate a Hero FFF? With timed intervals of heroes activating their running skills, and you only needing to flag them correctly. Saves you a bunch of mouseclicks.

That could actually be an interesting idea. Since you still have to go and zone, get quest and reward and rezone all the time.
Seems interesting enough if you could set up the script so it places the flags and hits run skills while you sit back and then wait the minute to go get quest reward.
However, it wouldn't surprise me if a.net would still ban for that because it is a form of "botting" and earning gold through the quest.

I wouldn't mind placing the flags, just scripting the skill activiation would do it for me. But need to buy a new keyboard first, so we will see.

Even if you did plant the flags yourself, it wouldn't really surprise me if just being able to press say 1 button to click all the skills would be suspicious to a.net.
That's the main problem is, they can say "oh macros are fine" in one instance and then ban you the next for misuse.

er... guys, anyone bring me up to speed and tell me HOW to set these things up?
And my keyboard isn't the G15, but i have some other buttons (F-lock, browser commands, go to mail button etc). can i use these buttons?
EDIT: just tried the keyboard's program and it lets me use an EXE file on the keys apart from the default and some COPY and PASTE commands. are these EXE files macros and how do i create them please?

It's not. The G15 can easily record button combinations and save them as macros. Just by hitting the "MR" button -> Hot Key you want to assign -> button combo you want -> "MR" button (-> Add time delays, mouse clicks etc trough Keyboard Profile tool from Logitech)
I've been thinking about spiking with heroes too , shouldn't be bannable as one can press 4 buttons at the same time too. (I got 10 fingers so can go upto 10! ;-))
my macros so far:
G2: /resign
G3: /age
G4: /deaths
G5: /dance *
I used to have G18 as F12+c, but I pressed it a few times accidentally and removed it since then
I've used to LCDapp, but it wasn't very useful so got rid of it

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. Ought to get an official statement that using these macro's is not a bannable offense. In case you get banned, you can put that statement under their nose and hope to get unbanned.
